Sherwood Forest - This historic Royal Hunting Forest of woodland, heath, farms &
settlements is the world famous home of Robin Hood legends, and the ecologically
important home of some of Europe’s greatest trees, with lowland heathland that is
as rare as rainforest!
Hardwick Hall - One of the most splendid houses in England. Built by Bess of Hardwick
in the 1590s, and unaltered since: yet its huge windows and high ceilings make it
feel strikingly modern. Outside, stone gleams and glass glitters in the light. Its
six towers make a dramatic skyline. Climbing up through the house, from one spectacular
floor to the next, is a thrilling architectural experience.
Rufford Abbey Country Park- This varied park includes the ruins of a medieval monastery,
a contemporary craft centre, gardens, woodland walks, children's play village, sculpture
trail, and a lake. We have lots of special events too. Bring the family for a relaxing
and inexpensive day out. Entry to the park, gardens and Abbey is free.
Creswell Crags - Represents one site among a significant cluster of cave sites inhabited
during the last Ice Age in Britain. The dramatic limestone gorge is tucked away within
the gently undulating limestone landscape on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border.
There is a visitors centre which runs two types of tours, the young travellers tour
geared towards younger visitors and their families and the Life in the Ice Age Tour
where you can explore what life was like here thousands of years ago.
